Eight miles from the start, we got on the shoulder of I-80 for almost 30 miles. This stretch featured a couple of very long grades as well as long fast descents. The shoulder was in good condition although a couple of riders did get flat tires.
Once we left I-80 at Evanston WY, we spent a good amount of time on WY 89 before crossing the state line back into Utah. The highway changes to UT 16 at that point. The scenery was mostly rolling ranch land, and the road was good with only moderate traffic. The big attraction of today was Bear Lake, which covers an area over 100 square miles in southeast Idaho and northeast Utah. Our route took us several miles along the western side of this freshwater lake. No doubt traffic would have been much heavier on a weekend, but for Wednesday it was not too bad.
The final rest stop at 113 miles was right next to an ice cream shop. PAC Tour paid for a treat (each rider's choice), which was much appreciated and gave a good boost for the last 17 miles to the motel.

ReplyDeleteThe scenery is so different .. gorgeous sky over Bear Lake.
ReplyDeleteLooked like the paving truck people enjoyed a break, however brief, to see y'all pass!
Hot weather continues here; doubt rain would help except make it humid,
